In 2015, my hair have went through a hell of a roller coaster ride. From ever changing colours to styles and design, 2015 has got to be my most volatile year ever. Some of my friends have asked, why is my hair is still intact or why my head has not gone bald? I know, that’s what friends are for, they asked the most brutal questions.
All I can say is that, the more I did colouring and treatment to my hair, I also consistently cut and trim the ends of my hair. So it gets to grow continuously and quickly.
Nonetheless, did you know that apart from all the styling, dyeing and heat that can damage our hair, the quality of our hair is also affected by external environmental factors. Lack of sleep, not eating sufficient fruits and vegetables, not drinking plenty of plain water, stress from work amidst other options all plays a part in your hair’s health and appearance. It’s going to be difficult to let it be healthy and pretty!
To make it simple for us to remember, here is a 5 Stress guide and the answer to maintaining a good head of healthy tresses. By knowing how these external factors and everyday personal habits can add stress to your hair, I will also share with you the solution to manage the stress for myself 🙂
1- Heat damage/friction from blow drying
Since blow-drying removes moisture from both outside and inside the hair, it can make your hair dry, brittle and susceptible to further damage.
2- Combing friction to the hair cuticles
Combing when hair is wet can cause great hair damage since the hair follicle is at its most fragile state. Even when its dry, your hair can form hair knows which also makes hair prone to unnecessary breakage.
3- Split ends
Hair ends are the oldest and driest part, thus when the protective hair cuticle is destroyed at the end, the hair splits into two or more parts.
4- Hair breakage
Even seemingly harmless actions like tying your hair into tight ponytail or twirling your hair excessively creates stress on your hair and can result in hair breakage.
5- Dry hair that feels rough
Now, regular exposure to the sun, wind and even air-conditioning can remove the moisture from our hair. Then the hair cuticles weaken over time and will be unable to retain moisture within the cuticles of the hair.
What is the key thing that we see in the 5 stress mentioned above? If you mention: Moisture and protection, then you are right. The cuticle need to be protected in order to make the hair healthy from the roots to the tip. So I have been using Essential CC(Cuticle Care) Oil which shares the same multi-functional concept of BB or CC cream in skincare. The concept is simple: one cream with multiple number of effects. In this manner, 1 oil protects my hair from 5 hair stress. CC Oil forms a protective coat around EACH hair strand and protects my hair from the 5 hair stresses. When you place your head on your pillow and as your hair rub against the pillowcase, the cuticles may misaligned thus making your hair frizzy like a lion’s mane in the morning.
In order to “reset” this frizziness, we shower and wash and blow dry our hair.
